Autonomous Maintenance
This is a pillar of World Class Manufacturing that gives the factory operator responsibility for basic maintenance tasks rather than relying on specialized technicians. The professional maintenance technicians, on the other hand, will intervene on more complex failures. Their task is managed by another pillar of the WCM: called Professional Maintenance.
Generally, the tasks that can be assigned to the independent worker are simple tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, safety checks and inspections.
This methodology has its roots in the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) used in Japan, whose goal is to achieve maximum plant efficiency by involving all available operators
